Today I’ve got a few things to report, the first is that I’ve gotten rid of the image resizing in the gallery. It was an interesting experiment, but with no way to actually view the full size image (with this Lightbox), I figured you guys would rather scroll and see the full size image than not scroll and see a minimized one.

Though I must say I already like this gallery, I mean really… just how often has the site crashed since we switched to it? That’s right zero! I’ve even been able to ditch Nginx off the server which was causing assorted other problems like odd redirects, or everybody having the same IP at the forum. Good riddance if you ask me. The only problem I’m really seeing with it so far is the Lightbox program could be better, I’ll be testing others as I find them until we find a better one, but the gallery behind it I rather like.

Gallery stuff aside let’s talk about the vote, or at least an idea for it…..

Whatever has the most votes gets updated first, then whatever had the second most votes would be updated the next day and so on in that order. I figured I’d cover this here rather than in the comments of the posts. See for years we actually did a weekly vote, it worked out okay… but even in a time when the site was getting far more traffic we’d get 14-20 votes. People really just didn’t seem to give it the time of day, especially when compared to our daily votes which often get 30+ votes. The main point of these votes is actually to encourage traffic by giving people a reason to come back daily, a way to interact with the site (which I’m actually thinking of adding other ways as well). Also as I noticed when the old gallery blew up a few days ago, I asked a question… and got a few responses but not many, and that was over three days. I got more responses to my question yesterday than that. So it sort of serves a two fold purpose, one to encourage traffic, and another to actually encourage site participation. So I’d like to thank you for putting forth the idea, but for now I think we’ll keep things as they are. I rather like the interest people have in commenting now.
